Apple runs trials with larger iPhone displays and 13-inch touchscreen panels
According to The Wall Street Journal Apple's product plans include larger iPhone screens of 4+ inches, and Reuters supply chain sources claim the sizes are 4.7-inch and 5.7-inch. But it seems that Apple is not only enlarging the future iPhones, it is also testing a larger touchscreen for the iPad, just under 13-inch, as sources claim.
It is not necessarily for the iPad, though, it might as well be for a MacBook with a touchscreen, or a new convertible, like the ATIV Q, for instance.
It is but natural for a company like Apple to test numerous concepts and prototypes, and even though we won’t be seeing a 5.7-inch iPhone or a 13-inch iPad soon, something bigger and more impressive is probably in store for us.
The Journal also confirms an iPhone with the current shell and screen resolution and an iPad with a lighter and thinner display are on their way. The sources have also brought up the rumor about the less expensive iPhone Lite that will come in a nonmetal body and a variety of colors. They also claim that a color palette is in store for the iPhone 5S, and indicate that this year we might have something different from the usual black and white.
