This morning Verizon Wireless joined AT&T, Alltel and Sprint and introduced the HTC Touch Pro smartphone on their website, making it available for ordering online or via telesales. The handset is a bit pricier compared to the other carriers, coming in at $349.99 after a 2 year contract and mail-in rebate.
In case you are not aware, the HTC Touch Pro is powered by Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 Mhz processor and runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. The 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, TouchFLO 3D user interface, 2.8 inch TFT touchscreen (480 x 640 pixels) and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard are also on board.
Verizon's version of the handset is sporting only 128MB of RAM, far less than the 288MB found on both AT&T and Sprint's version of the same smartphone. There are also unconfirmed reports that the built-in accelerometer has been removed.
The handset is currently available on Verizon’s website at $349 after a $70 mail-rebate and 2-year contract, $419 after $70 mail-rebate and a 1-year contract or $539 for full retail. Current customers eligible for an upgrade can deduct $100 or $50 off those prices. Those who prefer to try it before buying it will have to wait until the Touch Pro hits Verizon Stores in December.
