Nokia presents seven new low-end handsets (See all news)

In an effort to penetrate into emerging markets, Nokia unveiled today the 7100 Supernova, 5130 XpressMusic, 2323, 2320 and 2330 Classic, the 1202 and the 1661. Estimated retail prices of the new devices range from $32 to $116, with several models expected to begin shipping in 2008.
In addition to these handsets, Nokia also unveiled a range of mobile internet services aimed at rural customers. Nokia Life Tools will offer its users easy access to agricultural and academic information. This is an outstanding offer, since in can be hard getting a hold of those vital materials in remote locations. The other new service, Mail on Ovi, will allow users to create and use e-mail addresses directly from their cell phones, without the need of a PC.
"In 2002, Nokia unveiled a strategy to lower the cost of owning and operating a mobile phone and to bring the benefits of mobile telephony to people in emerging markets. Today, we are expanding that vision by introducing a number of devices and services that aim to bring the power of the Internet to these markets as well," says Robert Andersson, Executive Vice President at Nokia.
The Nokia 7100 Supernova is an addition to the popular Supernova collection. Designed for style and entertainment, the phone packs a 1.3MP camera, FM radio and a 65K QVGA display. Bluetooth connectivity and radio recording are some of the other more interesting features of the phone. The handset will also come complete with support for image sharing and email services on Ovi.
The music-orientated Nokia 5130 XpressMusic features dedicated music keys, standard 3.5mm audio port, FM radio, a 2 inch QVGA display and 2MP camera. Bluetooth v2.0, USB are also on board and there is a microSD card slot to allow you to store more music on the device. A 1GB memory card will be included in the standard retail package. The Nokia 5130 XpressMusic is expected to begin shipping in the Q1 of 2009 with an estimated retail price of $116.
Another classic trio introduced today shows the Nokia 2330 classic, Nokia 2323 classic and the Nokia 2320 classic. All three models support Nokia's newly announced Mail on Ovi mobile email service and Nokia Life Tools, Each handset will have a 65K color display with a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels.
In addition, the Nokia 2323 and 2330 classic will pack FM radios with recording capabilities. The Nokia 2330 also comes with a built-in VGA camera and Bluetooth. All three cell phones should be available in Q2 of 2009.
Nokia 1202 is the company’s lowest cost mobile device to date. Developed specifically for people in rural areas, the Nokia 1202 includes standard features like a flashlight, extended battery life, loud ringtones and dust-resistant keypad. The handset will be available in two dual band versions (850/1900 MHz and 900/1800 MHz) before the end of 2008.
The last of the handset announced today is Nokia 1661. This small candybar cell phone comes in at the entry-level of the market, and features a 65K display, multiple phonebooks, FM radio and a flashlight. The device will have two dual-band GSM versions (850/1900 MHz and 900/1800 MHz) and start shipping in Q1 of 2009.
