Today, Samsung officially unveiled the M8800 Pixon. The new device features 8 megapixel camera with auto-focus, fast-shutter, face detection, geo-tagging and LED flash.
The new model is touted mainly for its camera-like design, options and picture quality. It also features a photo browser that interacts with the accelerometer to flip through photo albums. The large 3.2 inch touchscreen display should also add to an overall great photo-taking experience.
As a camcorder, Pixon can capture videos in DVD resolution (720x480) or in QVGA with option for 120 frames per second and offers both DivX, and Xvid video support.
The Samsung M8800 Pixon has quad-band GSM/EDGE radios, as well as HSDPA 7.2 Mbps at 2100MHz, which unfortunately, will limit its usage in the U.S. as 2G mobilephone.
Other standard features of the handset include Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP, an FM radio with RDS, as well as GPS support to be used for photo geo-tagging. The Pixon has 200MB of internal storage space and also supports microSD expansion cards of up to 8GB. The device comes equipped with a 1000mAh battery that should power the phone for 3 hours and 40 minutes of talk time, or up to 12 days of standby time.
The Samsung M8800 Pixon will start shipping in mid-October starting with France and soon continuing to most other European and Asian countries. The price tag should be around $800.
