Today, Samsung officially announced its new BEAT edition, a family of music-oriented mobile phones. After Sony Ericsson’s Walkman and Nokia’s XpressMusic series, Samsung is finally giving a name to its line of phones dedicated to the music fans. The names of the first devices from this family are BEAT b for the candybar and BEAT s for the slider.
The main feature of this BEAT edition is what Samsung calls Motion Play. Motion Play lets users control their music with just few simple motions. Here are a couple of examples: tapping the phone will pause music, flipping it over will silence the phone while shaking the handset will advance the music player to the next track.
The Samsung BEAT s M3200 is a slider with metallic finish and dedicated music keys that comes with tri-band support and U.S. friendly frequencies (850/1800/1900). It's has stereo loudspeakers, a Bang&Olufsen ICEpower audio chip, a 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth with AD2P, USB 2.0, FM radio with RDS and audio recording.
Beside these rich music features, the phone sports a 2 inch 262k color QVGA display, a 2 megapixels camera and a battery that can last up to 7 hours of talk time or 21 hours of music playback. A microSD memory card slot is also on board with support for cards up to 8GB.
The Samsung M3200 is expected to launch in October.
The second handset unveiled today is Samsung BEAT b M3510, also a
music-oriented phone that comes in a candybar shape and offers 900/1800/1900 tri-band GSM/EDGE radios.
The cell phone offers pretty much the same music features as the M3200 with the only exception of the Bang&Olufsen audio chip.
The phone has a 2 inch QVGA display (240 x 320 pixels), a 2 megapixel camera with video capabilities, microSD memory card slot, stereo Bluetooth and FM radio with RDS. All these features are packed in a body that's only 9.9mm thick.
The Samsung M3510 is set to be available by the end of September.
