We’re done with rumors, the T-Mobile Dash 3G was officially announced and it is expected to hit the shelves in July. The handset is the first 3G enabled phone using Windows Mobile offered by the carrier as they rapidly expand their high-speed network. The Dash 3G is based on the HTC developed Snap, whose versions are already available on Sprint and Verizon.
“HTC is designing products like the T-Mobile Dash 3G to appeal to the ever-growing number of customers who are using the empowering features of smartphones to benefit their busy lives,” said Jason Mackenzie, vice president, HTC America. “HTC is pleased to continue its long history of working closely with T-Mobile as we today introduce the next generation of the popular T-Mobile Dash.”
Highlights of the Dash 3G include the new trackball controller, full QWERTY keyboard with offset keys and the ability to work on Wi-Fi based wireless networks. It also connects and organizes users with voice calling, messaging, support for personal and business email, GPS for location-based services and synchronization with Microsoft Outlook.
The smartphone runs on a 528MHz CPU with 192MB of RAM, while the OS is Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard. At this point, there is no information if it’s upgradable to WinMo 6.5. Other specs include a 2.4 inch display, full HTML browsing, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, a 2 megapixel camera and a microSD card slot for cards up to 16GB.
The T-Mobile Dash 3G will be available on July 15th in a glossy-black finish with red accents. No information about pricing.
