Here it is folks. The T-Mobile announcement we were all been waiting for, the T-Mobile myTouch 3G is arriving in August, but with pre-orders starting from July 8th. The handset is very similar in look and design to the HTC Magic Android phone, which was announced earlier this year, it will cost you $199 with a 2-year contract, and will be available in white, red and black.
"The G1 was highly successful and captured the imagination of thousands of developers as the first Android-powered phone,' said Andy Rubin, vice president, mobile platforms at Google. 'With myTouch, T-Mobile is poised to capture the imagination of consumers everywhere, and by expanding the availability and appeal of Android-based devices, they're giving developers a bigger market for the next wave of killer Android applications.
"Designed by HTC and running on Android 1.5, the myTouch features a 3.2-inch HVGA touch-screen display and virtual keyboard, which orients automatically from portrait to landscape mode in most applications. It runs on the same Qualcomm 7201A platform with a 528 Mhz CPU and has 192 MB of RAM just like the other HTC-manufactured Android devices.
In terms of connectivity, the smartphone features GSM/EDGE connectivity as well support for 3G HSDPA networks. Built-in WiFi, stereo Bluetooth and USB are also onboard. The myTouch 3G features a full HTML web browser, Google's voice powered search, as well as YouTube, Google Maps, and Picasa integration.
Multimedia features include a 3.2MP autofocus camera and a music player application with support for different audio file formats. Photos, videos, and music can all be stored on the myTouch 3G's included 4GB microSD memory card. As for messaging, the device offers easy access to both personal and corporate E-Mail, including support for Exchange, Gmail' and most other POP3 and IMAP E-Mail services as well as synchronization with Google contacts and calendars.
In addition to the virtually endless ways to personalize the phone, plus its deep integration of Google services and the latest Android software, T-Mobile myTouch customers will enjoy access to new applications that enhance their mobile lives. One such application is Sherpa, made by an outside vendor, the software will pay attention to the way the customer uses the device and the Android Market and adjust the phone's settings accordingly.
The T-Mobile myTouch 3G is available for pre-order from July 8th onwards and costs $199 with a two-year contract. It comes in white, black and wine red colors.
