The Swedish manufacturer of mobile phones carrying cases, Krusell, has just released a new Top 10 of the most sold handsets for this month. The list is based upon the number of pieces of model specific mobile and smart phone cases that have been ordered from the Swedish company during June 2009.
This top is unique because it reflects the sales of phones on six continents and in more than 60 countries around the world.
"Last month Nokia took a Grand Slam by taking all Top 3 positions at Krusell's best seller list for May. The list in June also gives an impression something is happening in the market. Nokia takes five out of ten positions, HTC takes four and Apple one. Samsung, LG and Sony Ericsson are all out of the list. - To me it is surprising even the previous best seller Omnia had to leave the list this month," says Ulf Sandberg Marketing Director at Krusell.
“Yet another surprise is that everybody in the industry always talks about how short the lifecycles of mobile phones have become. This month's number one, Nokia 6300, was introduced in February 2007 in Krusell's assortment and is now back on top of the list 28 months later," he ends.
Another interesting study reveals that the consumer appetite for smart phones is skyrocketing and annual sales worldwide will increase. In US, Best Buy Mobile commissioned a survey revealing that a large portion of adults in America intend to buy a smartphone in the next couple of months. However, many barriers stand in their way, including confusion about the technology, the shopping experience and price.
Of adults who do not yet own a smartphone, almost half claimed they are too confused by the vast array of models and features. Barriers to smartphone ownership include the difficulty with the shopping experience, confusion about models and expense.
The success of the iPhone, Pre, and Blackberry definitely shows the strength of consumer demand for an intelligent and multifunctional device. The appeal of the smartphone will create significant new revenue streams for carriers and developers, who should strive to create new service bundles that build off this mobile platform with converged video, voice, and data applications.
